As a mom who has sent thier child off to a fredericton preschool I would HIGHLY recommend the Preschool Center on Windsor street!!
The staff is exceptional and my son absolutley loved it!
My daughter goes to the Preschool Center on Clark Street and she really likes it! I am also extremely happy about everything there!!
Comments regarding the New Maryland Children's Centre would be greatly appreciated by a family considering that as an option. Thank You so much.
What exactly do they do at preschool? (seems like a stupid question, I know) But Some parent's schedules or finances do not allow for taking a child to preschool. What kinds of things can we do at home with them so they are getting the same type of learning?
I don't think its a stupid question at all. Unless you have gone to sit in on a preschool "class" then you really have no way of knowing. I don't think it's anything profound that they do there. I think the main thing Is a structured day plan. As well as social interaction with other kids. Which your child can also get by going to a playgroup with children their own age. They sit and have a story time. They have a free play time. Im sure they go over letters and numbers, and teach children how to spell their names. All things I think you can do on your own if preschool is not in your budget or doesnt fit into your daily routine.
I love flash cards with my kids, and alpha books. My son who is 3, knows all the words on the back of the flash cards (with no pictures) and can spell his own name. We have been doing counting since he was very young, I made him a colorful chart and he learned to count to 25 that way at 2 years old. Parents can do anything that a preschool teacher can do, it just takes repetitiveness and an interested child! :)
I'm debating sending Cole to preschool but I'm going down to 3/4 time at work so finances may not allow it at this point so I googled "home preschool curriculum" and a whole whack of ideas came up. There are all sorts of themes and activities and I found a bunch of printable worksheets for letters, numbers, shapes and colors. Look around and see what you can find! I also found some workbooks with that stuff in it at the dollarstore from Bob the Builder and the Backyardigans and they come with stickers. Cole got some Lightning McQueen pencils, erasers and crayons from there too and he takes his things to the sitter's and does his "homework" with her girls when they get home from school. I don't think it's going to be as good a thing as actually going to preschool but I figure at best, he'll be familiar with some stuff.
Hi,
My husband and I (and our 3/12 yr. old son) are moving back home to Fredericton this fall after living away for 14 years. I'm wondering how hard it will be to get my son into a daycare program (2-3 days/week)? We live in Toronto and the wait lists for preschools and daycares is long. I'm still on a daycare list for my son that I put my name on when I was 6 months pregnant! I hope it's not that bad back home. Any suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated.
Take care,
Lynn
we are moving to the area - have you heard much about the YMCA?? I like how they have swimming one day a week??
We went to the preschool center and can get a space - but Im worried its on such a busy street and too close to the street... does not look like it would be good for drop off/pick ups??
Has anyone heard about UNB preschool?
